Toby Keith - Movie Star?

"Beer for My Horses", the latest theatrical attempt by country music icon, Toby Keith, was released on August 8, 2008, in limited locations.

On the Yahoo Movie website, it describes the storyline of the movie as "Best buddies and small town deputies Rack, Lonnie and Skunk, defy their boss and head out on an outrageous road trip, really a mission, to save Rack's girlfriend, Annie, from druglord kidnappers."

Toby Keith plays Rack, and co-screenplay writer, country music singer, Rodney Carrington, plays friend and fellow deputy Lonnie; and Ted Nugent, 70s rock performer, plays Skunk. Other well known actors in this movie include Tom Skerritt, as the sheriff; Barry Corbin (from Northern Exposure fame and others) as Buck Baker; and, of course, buddy Willie Nelson as Charlie. Other familiar names in the movie include parts by David Allan Coe and Mel Tillis.

It sounds like a terribly funny move, and Yahoo user ratings give it a B. One of the comments says it isn't an Academy Award winning movie, but worth seeing.

I don't understand the whole movie business, I guess; it was only released in a very limited number of theaters across the country, and I remember hearing a radio story about the moving having such a disappointing opening weekend. It had only grossed like $250,000 or something like that, which obviously sounds just horrible. It sounded like, at the time, that they were not planning to release to anymore locations, but just send the movie straight to DVD.

What do you think? Would you go see the movie? Would you see the movie because Toby Keith was in it? Did you see Broken Bridges? I liked Broken Bridges; no, TK isn't that great of an actor, but it was a nice story. With so many country music fans who love Toby, why didn't it get broader release? Love to hear your thoughts......
